My News Report

“Edgewater TV News” (When/Where/Who/What/Why)

Hello my name is Andrew and I’m from Edgewater TV.

The Waterview Tunnel opened on the 3rd of July 2017. They want the cars, vans and trucks to go in the tunnel. I hope the traffic doesn't get heavy. I think they rush in the traffic in the morning. I went for a walk in there on 25th of June 2017. I think the tunnel was good. I enjoyed walking there.

Waterview tunnel experiences its first Monday morning rush hour.
Auckland's Waterview Tunnel appears to have passed its first workday test with flying colours.
Traffic flowed freely despite the rainy weather as commuters took to the new stretch of motorway on Monday morning.
Penina Momoisea said the tunnel had shaved about 10 minutes off her school run – one third of her overall journey.
uff reporter Craig Hoyle takes viewers for a ride through Waterview Tunnel during Monday rush hour.
"I live in Mangere Bridge and my son goes to school in Grey Lynn. So we'd usually have to go through the back roads of Mount Albert to get to Grey Lynn; it would take 30 to 35 minutes," she said.
We just went through the tunnel and got off at St Lukes. It makes a huge difference. There's definitely not as much pressure on the roads as there was."

Meanwhile, Claire Matthews noticed Monday morning's trip from the airport to Massey University's Albany campus on the North Shore was about 15 minutes shorter.
"It was just so straightforward as opposed to having to get onto Gillies Ave and then State Highway One," she said. "To be honest there wasn't much traffic in the tunnel."
New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman Brett Gliddon said it had been a "great Monday morning" on Auckland's motorways.
The Waterview Tunnel opened to public traffic at 12:47am on Sunday, after being delayed several months.
"Traffic has been free-flowing through the tunnel as well as on State Highway 16 and State Highway 20."
By midnight on Sunday, 78,000 vehicles had travelled through both tunnels since they opened early on Sunday morning.
"In particular people are telling us they've had vastly improved travel times from the North Shore to the airport this morning, a journey that can often be quite slow going."
The Waterview Tunnel is the final link in the 48km Western Ring Route, which should reduce inner-city traffic.
Traffic volumes inside the tunnel during Sunday peaked at about 4000 vehicles an hour in each direction at lunchtime, with more than 2,200 extra vehicles on the motorway system at one time through this period than on a typical Sunday.
"This shows that many people were checking out the tunnel for the first time and demand was extraordinarily high, given these extra

traffic flows the motorway system was working very well yesterday and that's continued into today," Gliddon said.
Praise for the tunnel was streaming in on social media, with MP Maggie Barry saying it took 10 minutes off her trip to the airport.
TVNZ weatherman Sam Wallace tweeted it had taken him just 25 minutes to get from the North Shore to the airport.
Gliddon warned that congestion was expected to build on Monday as workday commuters travelled through the tunnel.
"It's going to be really busy and many people will be using the new route for the first time so we're asking everyone to be patient and factor in extra travel time for the next few weeks while things settle down," he said.
CCTV footage released by NZTA showed the first vehicles heading through the newly opened tunnel at 12:47am on Sunday.
The tunnel was originally scheduled to open in April, but that was pushed back due to a fault with the jet fan and water extraction pump system.
Its new opening date was kept a secret due to congestion fears - although traffic was backed up on Sunday afternoon as Auckland sightseers headed through the tunnel for the first time.
Traffic delays were compounded by a breakdown in the left-hand lane; the NZTA said an incident team responded quickly to manage traffic before towing the car away.
The Waterview Tunnel is the final link in the 48km Western Ring Route, which is expected to reduce inner-city traffic.
It also provides a direct motorway link from Auckland's airport to the central city.

Best Thing this week at school

My best thing at school this week was seeing the Sommerville Building and playing the soccer at Macleans College.

I love going to see Sommerville Building because of what is going on with that.
I love playing the soccer at Macleans College so I can get a prize giving.
